There are a lot of things that inspire me and one of them is photography. Pictures capture 1000 words? Yup! I recently had the joy of picking up a new toy that I absolutely l.o.v.e. My canon dslr might just be considered by first child (sorry misto). Not only do I love capturing the world around me but it helps me explore. I am completely a novice when it comes to my overall knowledge but who cares?!? I am learning and hopeful to be more efficient in my photos here soon. The photo above is taken right outside my new apartment. I'm excited to learn more. Stay tuned...Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-248699850239032101.post-76490998137007872852012-03-08T00:15:00.003-08:002012-03-08T00:29:05.270-08:00ABC's<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pVLmh3dolAc/T1htLpRmMEI/AAAAAAAAARE/LYCguZSF5Ho/s320/IMG_7543.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5717439773772492866" />
ABC's of me.
Today, August 10th, marks my one year anniversary of moving to Sacramento. It's hard to believe that it's only been a year while still hard to think a year has already gone by. Where has the time gone? I had a great time or reflection and am so glad to have pursued this adventure. This year has been a quiet year for me. One that has involved a lot of self reflection. I am more self aware and confident in who I am...and grateful to have had the space to do so.

How did I celebrate? I new pair of scandals and salted caramel pinkberry. Yum.
This little guy has been my companion this year, and I'm glad he's around. I like the idea of flying...getting somewhere fairly quickly, not a lot of additional days have to be taken off for actually getting to your destination.
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MwRWRjjZLec/TdAvp_dpmGI/AAAAAAAAAPU/V4h0T105n_c/s320/IMG_0922.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5607033934533204066" />

BUT

I seem to be a magnet for weird flights and/or seat neighbors. My last flight to Colorado proved to be no different. I was lucky enough to get a window seat. That always seems to help with the queasy feeling that pops up it's ugly head during turbulence. Long story short, I had an older gentleman sit next to me that proceeded to eat funions (sp??) during the entire trip. I've personally never tried them, but by the smell, I never want to. He also leaned over my seat numerous times to take photos out of the window.
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NcW0E9CbMbY/TdAvqe9cpjI/AAAAAAAAAPc/fZPkjM-rXtM/s320/IMG_0998.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5607033942988072498" />

Stranger+funion breath+invading my already limited space=nauseous Kim

But it was all worth it because I got to see some very dear friends of mine and witness my sister's graduation. So dispite the anti-fun(ion) plane ride,it was...true to form...a quick flight and was over quickly.

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PAxYSjr2v8c/TdAvqjvyzSI/AAAAAAAAAPk/qTV5-wGX0oI/s320/IMG_1176.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5607033944272981282" />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-248699850239032101.post-67734270532336909872011-03-05T13:11:00.000-08:002011-03-05T13:20:47.352-08:00Oh Boy...<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 225px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cWkb_YTrO1w/TXKn_EdgXqI/AAAAAAAAANk/TJSNgdc-8jU/s320/l_822af35490874c5dfd06ff2787a6318d.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5580707590236561058" />
Today is the day to:

-Clean my Apt.
-Take Misto for a walk
-Buy flowers
-Charge my cell phone
-Go grocery shopping
-Finish my taxes
-Bake a birthday cake

...all those are fun and all, but the thing I'm most looking forward on my "to do" list is:

-PICKING UP MY SISTER AT THE AIRPORT!!!

Happy Birthday Quizzle, I la' you long time!

{This photo is of the two of us a loooong time ago. I'm not really messy but I'm definitely not OCD nor a clean freak. It it nice, sometimes, to do a deep clean. I did that today in my apartment.

Magic Eraser is my new B.F.F. and does the trick for cleaning base boards (who knew?).

I decided to deep clean in preparation for my sister, Karley, to come visit. Yay! And, she's coming out for her birthday. Double yay! We will be heading to San Fran and to Napa. Other than wishing it not to be frigid, I hope that we just have a relaxing and fun time together.

Growing up, we always wished we were twins and would wear the same outfits. Do you think it would be too much to get her a matching outfit?!?! That might be a little much but gives an accurate tempature reading on my excitement level.

Here's to cleaning and looking forward to having my sis (with too many nicknames to count) come and visit soon!!
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-e2IfWY_CQT8/TWIXpxvsh8I/AAAAAAAAANc/4H7aMOObRiw/s320/IMG_0462.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5576045295133558722" />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-248699850239032101.post-84379411412790954012011-02-14T00:10:00.000-08:002011-02-14T22:02:07.861-08:00Love this!Civil Wars...LOVE! I'm all about good deals on things and I think I may have just taken the cake...if I do say so myself.

I met my friend Julie and her new fiance in Vacaville for a quick cup of coffee and a bite to eat. After we parted ways, I noticed that a Home Goods store was in the same complex that our Panera had been. While in the area, I couldn't resist. I traipsed through the store and happened upon the clearance section of the furniture. I happened upon a great beauty of a nightstand. It had a marble top that was broken and the tag read "As Is $15." Mind you, the original price was $199.

HOLY GOOD DEAL!

I tried to see if this marble top was removable...and it was! So, I took that marble piece off and thought I could find something to put in it's place or just spray paint the whole thing.
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eFni5qIMGWM/TVjhyQmWGuI/AAAAAAAAANM/LtVJXWx3rXw/s320/IMG_0565.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5573452792436497122" />
I went to Michael's and got some slate grey paint, taped up the hardware, and went to town. I think I need to get some sand paper to make the edges look more worn.It has a little bit of a worn look, which is uber fab.
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kkyKDAaA_4w/TVjhy50XETI/AAAAAAAAANU/D4x-3BAjEgA/s320/IMG_0566.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5573452803501134130" />
I got my oil changed during this whole trip and my steal of a deal was in the back seat. A couple of the technicians asked how I got such a good deal and I got to tell my little story. So fun!
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-M1BeTO19uPE/TVjhyN4GvFI/AAAAAAAAANE/s3bi_ujf3Is/s320/IMG_0563.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5573452791705680978" />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-248699850239032101.post-26876841570613606152011-01-23T17:58:00.000-08:002011-01-23T18:26:22.747-08:00Lessons on Living (Pt. 2)So, I've noticed a few things since moving here to Sacramento...here's another one.

Fog and Rain and Moss.

I've only lived in Southern California and in during the Winter months, Southern California doesn't have a lot of weather change. It remains mostly the same.

But...

since moving to Sacramento I've experience my first Northern California winter. It's nothing like Colorado, but I have noticed a few things. Like IT'S COLD! It's rainy! It's foggy!

When I mean cold, I mean it's really cold. I got rid of a lot of jackets and coats because I didn't think I needed them. But I was way wrong. I decided to devote some of my next blogging posts to these new lessons. I hope you enjoy.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oyX21PkKGPs/TS1BMtYxBXI/AAAAAAAAAMw/cNy9PdpcpMQ/s320/IMG_0340.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561172801470137714" />Yesterday marks my 5 month anniversary to moving to California. Thus the idea. Dang, time has flown by. Speaking of flown, I have flown more on an airplane since moving to Sacramento than in my total years living in Denver. That either shows I have no friends or am becoming more adventurous.

You can take your pick.

Anyhoo.

Lesson 1. CRV tax.

Wtf? Why do I have to pay $1-$1.20 extra for a case of D.C. D.C.=Diet Coke. Here I think I'm getting a good deal at Safeway for the "buy 2 get 1 free" deal. It's NOT a deal when I have to pay this tax...per case. Grrrr. Maybe it's a subtle way of hinting that I shouldn't be drinking D.C. But sometimes a girl just needs one, you know?

{Photo is the Soderholm clan, minus Karin, on Christmas Eve 2010}Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-248699850239032101.post-77023419635914166502010-12-10T20:44:00.000-08:002010-12-10T21:11:25.603-08:00Christmas is upon us!It's here...Christmas!
And Christmas is my favorite time of year. It's a little bit different this Christmas as I'm living by myself in a new city, but all in all I'm having a great time. As I'm typing this, I have a peppermint mocha in a red cup. Fab!My theme this year was metallic. Mostly I chose that theme because I got 100 ornaments at SAMS and could fully decorate with the vast array of bulbs and designs they gave me.
I also threw in a little sample of what my Christmas wrapping theme is for this year. I love how it matches my tree and has a twinge of metallic on the paper too!
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oyX21PkKGPs/TQMGKmCvm1I/AAAAAAAAAMU/1WRPa0RSSHY/s320/IMG_0222.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5549285944931097426" />

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oyX21PkKGPs/TQMFSsCBfBI/AAAAAAAAAMM/ls-QH9P70Zo/s320/IMG_0231.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5549284984466013202" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_oyX21PkKGPs/TQMGLP_CL9I/AAAAAAAAAMc/THkxcEMHMbA/s320/IMG_0223.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5549285956189827026" />

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oyX21PkKGPs/TQMFJ2cOriI/AAAAAAAAAME/6ioOvfsh2Jw/s320/IMG_0226.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5549284832641461794" />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-248699850239032101.post-41850148215007389202010-11-29T21:50:00.001-08:002010-11-29T21:58:50.045-08:00A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oyX21PkKGPs/TPSQxfx2GJI/AAAAAAAAAKY/D5QrrWXpe4Y/s320/IMG_0143.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5545216221218478226" />

There are so many things to love about this photo:

1.Arugula (my mom calls is "arue-goo-la"): A new addiction from Trader Joes. Wow.

I can't believe. how. much. time. flies.

I think this may be the 3rd weekend that I've fully been "home" since moving. Since I am now feeling more confident in my job and getting my apartment organized, I had a little chance to explore. I was looking for a fabric store to work on a project. As I drove on highway 50 towards Lake Tahoe, I took an exit and headed west.

Tah-da, I found Fair Oaks. It's just about in the foothills of Northern CA. Talk about cute! They are known for having chickens and roosters roam around town. Watch out if you ever drive there to look out for them!

I was pleasantly surprised at the cute little shops and antique boutiques that I visited. I wish I would have brought my camera to capture the fun-ness that I had. It was such a cute, quaint one street downtown. It even had an Italian eatery and French bakery. YUM! Too bad I already had Peets in hand. Bummer.

Oh well.

I figure this little adventure was so fun and about 20 miles away from where I live. Not. that. bad.

I enjoyed it mostly because it reminded me of Niwot...where everyone has a slightly slower pace and there are older women who just stand/sit around and chit chat. So awesome!

Currently Listening To: Lyle Lovett "If I had a Boat"

{Photo Credit}Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-248699850239032101.post-81022970576176909592010-09-10T00:17:00.000-07:002010-09-10T00:47:42.906-07:0009.09.10 Heaven Bound<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 192px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oyX21PkKGPs/TInfKa1hyPI/AAAAAAAAAKI/zUlsiP1Efoo/s320/IMAGE_049.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5515184588787402994" />

Today marks a sad day. One that I'm not sure how to handle. A piece of my known existence has left. Almost all of my childhood memories involve him in some way.

My dear, sweet Farfar went to be with the Lord this morning; he was 98 years old. I'm not sad for him, because I know he was ready to go..but I'm sad to loose his physical presence.

One of his paintings hangs prominently in my bathroom. It is a painting of a small portion of the central coastline where he and my Grandma lived. He had wanted to toss it, but I have loved it ever since I set eyes on it so he gave it to me:)

I love,love,love this painting.

There are many plants in the foreground but the ominous oceans lies in the background. Three seagulls seem to be in a quandary about staying on land or venturing out to sea.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 192px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oyX21PkKGPs/TIncWnDdClI/AAAAAAAAAKA/-6n-5aMkagg/s320/IMAGE_048.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5515181499690584658" />
Farfar planted a lot of seeds here for our family. Seeds that helped us each grow individually and collectively. He planted seeds of wisdom, loved his family, and sought to be a student of life until the very end. He brought his family over to America and blazed a new trail in a foreign country. He explored all things art and ventured in new businesses as well.

My sister Karley said it best...His passing is just another new adventure that he's paving the trail for the rest of us to follow.

He is like the seagulls in his painting with a slight twist. He's not lingering over land and sea anymore but it flying onwards and upwards towards Heaven.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-248699850239032101.post-77568965407535028462010-07-30T12:20:00.000-07:002010-08-04T08:17:34.351-07:00It's all happening...<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oyX21PkKGPs/TFmELlNINMI/AAAAAAAAAJw/H_bnWSuUqcs/s320/car_stuffed_with_fruits.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5501573754310374594" />
...so fast!

This is it folks. I was just having too good of a time, you know?

Honestly, I had preconceived notions about what this trip was going to be like. I thought that I would not be able to understand what was happening and that I would get lost. A lot.
This picture is of a long corridor that I had to walk through in the Frankfurt airport. Looong only begins to describe it. Notice how the photo was fuzzy? That's how I thought I would feel.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_oyX21PkKGPs/TDywuyjmShI/AAAAAAAAAJY/hLRlpbrT8os/s320/IMG_1238.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5493459963376716306" />

But to my pleasant surprise, it was not the case. I just followed the green walking signs and looked for colored signs and walking arrows. I was met with English (makes me feel bad for not knowing a second language) And I was met with smiling faces! I was also had my own cute little cup holder that held a myriad of beverages. Those German's are smart! You are free to mix the "yea's" and the "boo's" however you like.

It would go a little something like this...

School starts again in two months. "BOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
School is out for the summer. "YEAAAAAAAAAAA!"

I found twenty dollars! "Yeaaaaaaaaa!"
I lost it again. "Booooooooooo!"

Here is my yeaboo for today.

I some how lost my cute little red camera. I have no idea where it went.

But, last year at a concert, myself and a friend helped an extremely drunk girl find her friends and she left her camera in my car. I had no idea how to get it back to her so it's been renting out space in one of my desk drawers. It's a really cute camera but it uses a sleek rechargable batteries (which I didn't have a charger for). But my room mate did!

So here's my year/boo.

I lost my really cute red camera. "BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
I had an extra camera lying around and my room mate had a charger. "Yeaaa!!!"

Let the photo taking commence!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-248699850239032101.post-12231264432171754942010-06-22T08:53:00.001-07:002010-06-22T09:31:45.218-07:00Holm Land<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 219px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_oyX21PkKGPs/TCDdwZK4PmI/AAAAAAAAAJQ/dNuneXS4XjQ/s320/untitled.bmp" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5485628169597238882" />
Last year, I made a list of what I wanted to accomplish. Some of the list seemed like impossible desires...but nonetheless, I listed them anyway. One item on my list was to visit my country of origin before I turned 26.

My country of origin is Sweden. My dad came to the US with his family when he was a kid so I am partially a first generation American. My mom is also Swedish, so to truly see where I am from would be an awesome experience.

The parentals and my older sister, George, have been planning this international adventure for a while. It is very expensive to travel there so I thought it would never be in the cards for me.

That was, until about 3 weeks ago, that my second cousin named Lennart contacted my dad and asked why I wasn't visiting Sweden as well. The long and short of it resulted in him purchasing my ticket. Yahoo! And, my family was awesome to be flexible and let me accompany them on part of their journey.

My work was also very gracious in letting me go. So, with iPod, camera, some cute dresses, an umbrella, and a journal that I just sewed together, I will be heading to Stockholm for 8 days.

What to do? I'm not all together sure. I'm going to have a serious case of "go with the flow."

Maybe biking? Or go on a boat trip? I will be there during Mid summers. So party it up? OK!

Here is what I would like to do:
1. See Farfar's old art shop
2. See where my relatives are buried (great aunt and great grandparents)and do a grave rubbing.
3. Listen...to the language, to my relatives, and to the land. I want to know my extended family and where I come from and hear the spoken language. Does the sea sound different than the Pacific Ocean that I know? I've never been fully immersed so maybe I'll come back fluent? HAHA, NOT!

I will try to keep this blog updated but will be sure to have photos/stories when I return!

{Photo Credit}Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-248699850239032101.post-34650899596078250992010-06-15T12:53:00.000-07:002010-06-15T13:03:13.207-07:00A PaintingI just completed and gave my biggest painting to date.

A co-worker of mine is expecting a baby in July. The baby nursery is of the Peacock theme and I said I would paint something for the expecting couple. Though I haven't ever painted animals before, I was pleased that this one came out looking like a bird. There are somethings that I would change, but I was too sick of looking at it to care any more. Below are two images of the painting.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oyX21PkKGPs/TBfbdI8LWII/AAAAAAAAAJI/ECWNCsTPjKQ/s320/IMG_1060.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5483092365009442946" />
The Bird's head

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oyX21PkKGPs/TBfbcon9gUI/AAAAAAAAAJA/tYzuq8GBrf4/s320/IMG_1063.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5483092356334715202" />
The size of the canvas was 24''x36''Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-248699850239032101.post-885643982629920172010-06-05T12:34:00.000-07:002010-06-05T13:04:46.272-07:00The best bag...EVERMaybe I shouldn't blog about a purse, but I'm going to anyway. I recently got the best bag EVER at Buffalo Exchange. Buffalo Exchange happens to be a favorite store of mine because it's full of unique, consignment clothes and accessories.

In this particular case, they also had a fabulous bag.

I might go so far as to say it has changed my life. Why? Here are the reasons:

1. It is made out of sturdy, yet smooth leather
2. It has a fabulous interior that screams "yay!"
3. The hardware has unique metal facets that hold the straps on.
4. It is made by Marino Orlandi, a company in Italy. Sweet!

I'm not sure how this bag ended up in my hands, but I'm so glad it did. I have a wall of bags in my house (a place to put them and also a modern art piece too) and I haven't even thought about my other bags. If you know me, you know I love bags (p.s. I don't like to call them purses) so this is huge.

The newest member of my family has been welcomed with open arms. Welcome leather bag, I will love you for a long time.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-248699850239032101.post-71392647219355153272010-05-20T15:53:00.000-07:002010-05-20T15:57:16.326-07:00Ode to the Flip Flop<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oyX21PkKGPs/S_W9m05IXRI/AAAAAAAAAI4/liJ5kMTfRe4/s320/27704_565688574087_68601081_32947617_7603397_n.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473489396869651730" />

I recently ventured out to California for my cousin's wedding. It was fun and magical and a whirlwind trip. Amongst all the craziness, though, my sister's and I were able to stop at the beloved Rainbow Sandal outlet. Holy la-ah-ove!!

I got red kids flips and I think they are uber cute...and they cost half as much (cool!).

There is something freeing about being able to wear open toe flips (preferably in a fun color or design and it gives me an excuse to get a pedi).Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
